Divorce Mediation

The traditional divorce process places an enormous strain on the family – on financial resources, on relationships, and on the children. If you are looking for a collaborative approach to divorce, mediation might be right for you.

As a Monterey mediation attorney, I help couples and families explore and understand what mediation is all about. Mediation is essentially a process where the parties work with a neutral mediator to try and resolve the issues in their divorce such as property division, child custody, child support, and spousal support.

So why choose divorce mediation over a traditional divorce?

  • More amicable resolution
  • Minimizes the effect of the divorce on the children because the parents are working together
  • Preserve confidentiality - unlike family court proceedings which are open to the public, mediation proceedings are private and confidential
  • Solve problems creatively - in mediation, the parties identify common interests and decide the range of alternative solutions to suit their own needs and concerns
  • Mediation is generally significantly less expensive than a traditional contested divorce

Monterey Mediation Attorney

As a divorce mediator, I help guide the couple through the mediation process and work with the couple to reach an agreement. My mediation practice is both direct and pro-active. It is designed to waste as little time and money as possible. The couple will be asked about their individual ideas of what is fair, and I will facilitate dialogue to accomplish an agreement that incorporates as many of each party's goals as possible. In addition, I will also ensure that the objectives are fair, and that they will be accepted by the court.

If the couple comes to an agreement on the issues, I can help prepare the legal documents that are required to complete the divorce. Or, if they wish, they can have their own legal counsel prepare or review the agreement.

If mediation is not an option or your preference is to divorce through traditional methods, I am also a lawyer who provides traditional divorce and family law services as part of my practice.
